Op-Ed Deathmatch

Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov ran an Op-Ed in the Financial Times. As predicted, it was all about the peacekeepers:

"This is not a conflict of Russia’s making; this is not a conflict of Russia’s choosing...Georgian troops launched an all-out assault on the region of South Ossetia." Russia's "peacekeeping soldiers" where fulfilling their commitment under international agreements.

Meanwhile, back Saakashvili's strategy headquarters (presently located in the editorial department of the Washington Post), Georgia's president did not dissapoint, offering his own Op-Ed. "Russia intends to destroy not just a country but an idea... brutally purging Georgian villages...raping women, and executing men."

Too subtle, we fear.

Saakashvili also answered the question everyone wanted to ask. Apparently he was informed that a massive Russian armor column was idling in North Ossetia. However, "we did not anticipate the ferocity and scale of Moscow's responce."

Not. Anticipated.
