"Despite Isabekov’s obvious weakness, members of parliament opted to approve any candidate that Bakiyev proposed in order to forestall their own dismissal. Had parliament turned down Isabekov, it would have to resign."
It's a victory for democracy, we guess.

::snicker:: That's really all one can say to this. Hopefully they'll find someone better and find a way to fire this guy. Or maybe they should just all BE fired and the parliament can start from scratch...just for this stupidity.
/sigh, this is why we love post-communism.
This guy is interesting a bit - he's a technocrat, so chosen to be a little less independent and more attached to the president... but his selection continues the North-South compromise, as Isabekov is from the North just like Kulov was.
It is a little sad to watch the former "island of democracy" in Central Asia fracture along North-South rivalries, and slide from it's once robust committment to sober governance.
