1999 Apartment Bombings: Still Asking for the Truth

Remember the 1999 apartment bombings that pulled Russia into a second war with Chechnya and secured Putin's place in the presidency? So do twelve heroic Russian citizens. And they want answers.

VOA: In an open letter, the activists say the bombings brought on a period of "official propaganda and lies" and created "unceasing terrorist threats" from rebels in the North Caucasus.
To this day, David Satter's investigative work on the FSB's involvement in the murder of Russian citizens remains some of the best reporting in English on the topic. "Suspicions only deepened when a fifth bomb was discovered in the basement of a building in Ryazan and those responsible for placing it turned out to be agents of the FSB." Then there's that unanswered question about the hexogen.

Either way, we can only applaud the actions of a few brave souls who only ask for the truth from a government that is supposed to protect them.
