  4. You know, I have a pessimistic view about democratisation in post-Soviet [prostranstvo], therefore I compare any dissenting voice from this quagmire to Thermopyleans - they continued to guard Thermopylae even though they knew from the beginning "that the Medes will break through after all" as C.P. Cavafy wrote

  5. Though it is written by Cavafy about 50 years ago, I dedicate this poem to you!

    Thermopylae
    Honor to those who in the life they lead
    define and guard a Thermopylae.
    Never betraying what is right,
    consistent and just in all they do
    but showing pity also, and compassion;
    generous when they're rich, and when they're poor,
    still generous in small ways,
    still helping as much as they can;
    always speaking the truth,
    yet without hating those who lie.
    And even more honor is due to them
    when they foresee (as many do foresee)
    that Ephialtis will turn up in the end,
    that the Medes will break through after all..

  6. clarification: I am pessimistic not because I think that post-soviet people are not capable to create and sustain a democracy, but because I am afraid all these post-soviet Saddams won't go, and won't let others to oust them. Even someone is ousted at the end, ousters themselves became tyrants ;-)(R)

  7. Oh, I understand why you call us Thermopylae. I take it as a compliment.

  8. You call it "a compliment", Pirates and Diplomats calls it "a flattery", but I do sincerely admire your blog and your work.

    Continue to guard your Thermopylae!

    Good day, sun shines!
    There have been times of troubles when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright pessimistic person.
    I have never imagined that there weren't any need in large initial investment.
    Nowadays, I'm happy and lucky , I begin to get real money.
    It gets down to select a correct partner who uses your funds in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, and shares the income with me.

    You may get interested, if there are such firms? I have to tell the truth, YES, there are. Please be informed of one of them:
