Russia Calls for Air Raid on Poppies

According to the New York Times, Russia’s top drug enforcement official, Viktor Ivanov is calling on the US to take a stronger approach to poppy field eradication in Afghanistan. Ivanov believes the US should use the methods it used recently in Colombia, where vast coca fields were sprayed aerially with the herbicide glyphosate.

Why so determined to destroy the poppies? Well, Ivanov claims 30,000 young Russians die every year from drug use and 90% of Russian addicts use Afghan heroine. Holy Moses, that's a high percentage.

So the US should be on board for that, right? Oh wait no. Richard Holbrooke and others fear that poppy eradication alienates poor farmers and drives people into the hands of the Taliban. So stepping up the war on drugs could set back the war on terror.

The most upsetting thing about this is that Television lied to me. What other PSAs should I not believe?!

Wait, they tried to pull the plug on the Manas airbase, but they still want us to kill poppies?

Not to mention, isn't Kyrgyzstan looking into joining the poppy market? In two years 90% of addicts will just use Kyrgyz heroine instead fo Afghan heroine.
