I don't mean to be snarky on that title. I am honestly asking that question. More specifically, can a Chechen who's been charged with kidnapping and accused of a murder that has been in the international news get a fair trial in Russia?
NY Times: Rustam Makhmudov, the Chechen fugitive accused of killing the journalist Anna Politkovskaya, said he would turn himself in if he were assured of a fair trial. Two of Mr. Makhmudov’s brothers are among three people facing murder charges in Moscow as accomplices in the 2006 killing. Murat Musayev, who represents one brother, said Mr. Makhmudov had sent a message through relatives that he was willing to face prosecution if he were guaranteed security, a fair trial, and legal protection against an 11-year-old kidnapping charge.
